Sandy Ayre
My philosophy is one of empowerment: encouraging students to practice and cultivate yoga both on and off the mat. My passion is applying the teachings of yoga to life.
I started doing yoga in 2000 as an adjunct to athletics and sports – using the practice as a way to stretch and build core strength. Over time I discovered the softer, slower and more gentle sides of the practice, which piqued my curiosity. This is what led me onward to get certified to teach in 2009 with the Yoga Association of Alberta (YAA). I continue to study, learn and grow as a yoga teacher; for me yoga isn’t just a practice on the mat, but a way of living, and I try to embody yoga in all areas of my life.

MY CLASSES
As a teacher I feel one of the most important things is the person’s relationship to themselves and to their practice, more so than having a pose look a particular way. I’m a naturally curious person, and like to know if my students have particular needs or hopes when they come to their mats. Each class, therefore, will be a little different, depending on who is in the room. I am excited for us to work together to create a yoga practice that meets you where you are at in your yoga experience.
